Built in 1984, the Revelstoke Hydro Dam is one of the largest and most modern in North America. The dam is one of four that were built to regulate the flow of the Columbia River and provide power to the province.
There is a visitor centre, located at the top of the powerhouse, which has a large exhibit area, a theatre and gift shop. The centre offers a display and video presentations showing how the Revelstoke Dam was built and explains the process of hydroelectricity.
All areas are fully wheelchair accessible. Self-guided tours are available using a talking wand audio guide.
The visitor centre is open from April to October, 9 am to 5 pm, seven days a week.
The Revelstoke Dam is located 5 km/3 miles north of Revelstoke on Highway 23 North, approximately 24 km/15 miles from Three Valley Gap.
